My sister-in-law is a bad influence. She loves beautiful, expensive things. So when she found out that I was headed to the USA last month, she pounced with just one request: a new pair of Robin’s Jeans.
Excuse me? Robin’s Jean. The denim brand famous for its angel wings, aptly made in the ‘City of Angels’ by French designer, Robin Chretien. Currently, there are only four stores in existence – Beverly Hills, New York, Laguna and Ibiza, Spain.
I’d never heard of them before.
Naturally, this made me want them even more.
So as soon as I got to New York, I was there.
Walking into the Soho store, I was hit by a rainbow of denim. The walls were piled with hundreds of exciting, colourful styles, while vintage motorcycle memorabilia added ‘go away’, grungy cool. It was like Disneyland for jeans. I didn’t think it could get any better, until there it was – a French accent, greeting me. Turns out the designer’s (very charming) nephew manages the NYC store. And swoon I did. I spent $360 without blinking. As for my poor sister-in-law, her jeans had sold out!
Luckily, it was Robin’s to the rescue. The jeans were put on hold for me in the Beverly Hills store. I picked up the infamous black Marilyn jeans for her, swapped my $360 French-accent-induced pair for the signature black skinny’s … and I ran. Really fast.
Looking back now, I wish I’d kept both. I mean, what an investment. The denim is just right – thin enough for comfort yet firm enough for wobbles; they feel expensive on, like velvet (seriously, I can’t stop touching them); and the wings, well … say hello to one “fly” bootay. Did I mention Nicole Richie wears them? Sold.
Get your Robin on in Australia at Sambag stores nationally (full stockists below).
The verdict? Incredible don’t-tell-your-boyfriend jeans (mine almost cried). Stick to the signature styles and you won’t break the bank.
Size? Generally smaller to size, I went one up.
